Quota regime - My Opinion
From quite some time I am reading and thinking about the protest against the proposed quota in companies and academic institutes/schools/universities. Its really very frustrating for me and surely for all intellects(I believe myself an intellect and often feel happy by analysing, discussing with friends, and reading some burning issues) also. I had to vent out my anger against the wrong policies - made and implemented for self and political vantage and so I am starting from here.
I may sound favoring castism(racism) but the fact is that I have no respect for distorted Indian caste system (opposite to what mentioned in Gita and Ramayana). To be honest I am bit biased towards the communist ideology which pose a very simple question to everybody – Why a child born in poor family all his/her life remain pressed with debt, miseries and child born in rich family gets affluently peppered all the spice of life? Here again quota, reservation won’t eradicate the real problem. In some sense implementing quota regime will violates the spirit of Indian constitution – Which speaks about the rights of equality and the availability of equal opportunity.
I have asked many times a simple question and would like to ask same question from all whosoever favoring quota/reservation in academic institutions and public/private sectors.
In the present scenario:
Are the reasons behind the present condition of downtrodden, oppressed class is castism(I believe the reason is illitracy)?
Is not the classification based on financial conditions will be more robust than the caste?
Now coming to the reservation issue in academic institutes – In my opinion this will not Only negatively affect the growth of whole country but also break down the confidence of particular castes and only fuel the inferiority complex in them. In addition to above this will widen the rifts between different castes and may create many new ones. I have read somewhere one Chinese old saying that
“If you are capable of planning 1 year future of country’ future then sow the rice,
If you are capable of planning 10 year of country’s future then grow the jungle
If you are capable of planning 100 year of country’s future then educate your people”
So if we are really planning for long terms, which till now we haven’t planned - by keeping the education budget only 3.2% of GDP (gross domestic product) which eventually gets divided into primary, secondary, higher education plus research for 100+ crore people, we need to properly allocate the resources on education to get the 100% literacy.
My personal opinion is that we can’t achieve the above goal through the reservation, quota regime – supported by the last 50 years data. We need to come up with an intelligent, sensible, structured plan, which will ensure that the right resources are getting allotted to right people at right time.
